The Story of Gina
Growing up in a West Indian household many remedies were used by mothers and grandmothers to cure any ailment that you had. I remember as a child that my mom used Oatmeal, Milk and Honey as a facial mask explaining that mixture put moisture in her skin and made it feel soft. (And she did have soft flawless skin).
As a teenager I always had problems with my skin being dry, flaky, itchy and blotchy in spots. My mom used to make a paste of oatmeal and honey and apply it to my skin to stop the itching which was also drying.
The concoction did indeed moisturize my skin. She also made and applied the paste when I had the chickenpox twice, so you can imagine that my skin was on fire.
I also remember that she used to make oatmeal cereal, which we call porridge, and make every attempt to get me to eat it, saying that it would work from the inside out to heal my skin, but I didn’t like hot mushy cereal, so that was out of the question and I decided to go with the Oatmeal, Milk and Honey paste instead. Organically, it became my regimen.
For years I used this remedy whenever my skin flared up, often due to winter weather, change of diet, hormonal fluctuations or using products with a high alcohol content. Alcohol as a product ingredient typically causes severe dryness. As I got older, I began to test different products with Oatmeal, Milk and Honey as ingredients, claiming to help people with the same skin challenges that I faced often since having children, however, those products also contained Alcohol and other chemical based ingredients. It has always been in the back of my mind to create a more organic product to soothe dry itchy, flaky skin which also promoted beautiful healthy skin.
I went back to basics: Oatmeal and Honey have been known for centuries for their amazing benefits for the skin. Oatmeal is a natural anti-inflammatory and helps to soothe most irritants. Honey is a natural humectant (it helps to draw moisture into the skin. Rich in antioxidants and known for its curative powers, including healing the skin, I realized that my mother truly had chosen the right ingredients.
As we created the Unique Signatures line, we too went back to basics in using Oatmeal and Honey as the primary base ingredients for dry, itchy and irritated skin and to promote better skin health. We understand how important and challenging it can be to find the right skincare for your particular skin and skin care needs. Our products are formulated with Oatmeal, Honey and other natural ingredients to help provide relief and nourishment. We also make sure that all our products are free from harsh chemicals, fragrances, and other potential irritants.

Our belief is that it’s really important to remember that layering your skin with products that contain as many healthy ingredients that you can find (and no alcohol) will protect your skin from harsh chemicals, pollution and the effects of stress. While we cannot guarantee that each user will experience the same effects, we can guarantee that my mother knew what she was doing and I’m proud to claim that I too have non-itchy smooth flawless skin.
